Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An antique extending dining table features an adjustable frame incorporating additional leaves or sliding mechanisms to increase surface area for dining guests. Popularised in the nineteenth century, these tables often utilised mechanical telescoping or winding systems.

These tables were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or oak, selected for structural stability and fine grain patterns. Hardware usually features brass castors and steel or wooden internal sliding runner mechanisms.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-cut joinery, original brass or cast iron castors, and mechanical winding mechanisms often stamped by maker patents. The timber on inserted leaves should match the patina and grain alignment of the main tabletop.

Pair the dark walnut timber with contemporary upholstered chairs or minimalist lighting fixtures to create visual contrast. Balancing rich timber tones with neutral wall colours highlights the craftsmanship without overwhelming the room.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply high-grade beeswax polish every few months following the grain direction. Avoid direct heat sources, excess humidity, or harsh chemical cleaners to preserve the original finish.
