Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian button back chair is an upholstered seating piece featuring deep button tufting across the backrest, popularised during the 19th century in Britain. These chairs were designed with low seats and padded frames intended for comfort in drawing rooms and bedrooms.

Traditional construction relies on a timber frame, often mahogany or oak, fitted with hand-tied coil springs, woven jute webbing, and natural fillings such as horsehair. The exterior upholstery frequently features cotton chintz, velvet, or woven damask with passementerie trimmings.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-stitched upholstery details, traditional frame construction with dowel joinery, and natural stuffing materials visible under original lining. They often retain turned wooden legs with brass castors concealed beneath modern or traditional fringe skirts.

Position the chair in a reading nook, guest bedroom, or alongside minimalist contemporary sofas to create texture and historical interest. Combining floral upholstery with neutral surroundings creates a balanced English country aesthetic.

Vacuum the fabric and fringe regularly using a low-suction soft brush attachment to remove dust accumulation. Position the chair away from direct sunlight to prevent fabric discolouration and employ specialist textile cleaners for spot treatment.
