Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Silver pepper pots, also known as casters, became prominent table accessories in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries for dispensing ground spices. Originally crafted as single items, pairs and sets were introduced as formal dining etiquettes evolved during the Georgian and Victorian eras.

Antique pepper pots were predominantly constructed from solid sterling silver or silver plate over copper or nickel alloy. Features often included hand-engraved patterns, engine-turned panels, and hand-drilled perforations in the removable tops.

Authentic silver pepper pots typically feature makers marks and hallmarking indicating silver purity, city of origin, and date letter. Period examples display hand-finished details, signs of natural wear to the base, and precise fitting tops.

These pieces can be used as functional table condiments during formal dining or displayed on a sideboard, dresser, or drinks trolley. Placing them on a tray alongside other vintage tableware adds texture and historical interest to dining settings.

Silver pepper pots should be cleaned using a soft cloth and a specialised, non-abrasive silver polish to remove tarnish. Salt and pepper residues should be emptied and wiped dry regularly, as residual moisture can cause internal oxidisation.
