Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Pepperettes, or small silver pepper casters, became prominent in British tableware during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries as individual table settings replaced shared large casters. They were designed to hold ground pepper and distribute it evenly across a meal.

Edwardian pepper pots were predominantly crafted from sterling silver or silver plate, often constructed using raised sheet metal or cast components. The tops feature pierced perforations and friction-fit or bayonet caps to facilitate refilling.

Authentic Edwardian silver pieces feature British hallmarks including a makers mark, town mark, lion passant for sterling quality, and a date letter corresponding to the period between 1901 and 1910. Examining these stamped hallmarks near the base or rim helps verify authenticity.

Antique silver pepper pots add a historic accent to contemporary table settings when paired with clean linen tablecloths and modern ceramic tableware. They can also be displayed on a dining sideboard or within a glazed cabinet as part of a silver collection.

Clean silver tableware gently using a soft cloth and a specialised silver polish to remove tarnish without scratching the metal surface. Avoid abrasive cleaners or dishwashers, and store items in low-humidity environments or anti-tarnish bags when not in use.
