Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Country house pillar post boxes are tabletop or hall accessories used in large private residences around 1900 to hold outgoing mail for collection by household staff or postal workers. Designed to mirror public street pillar boxes, they kept domestic correspondence organised.

These domestic post boxes were typically crafted from hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, complemented by brass hardware including cast letter slots, key locks, and collection timetable frames.

Authentic period examples feature original brass hardware, working lock mechanisms, and period-appropriate joinery. They display natural patination on both timber and metal surfaces, alongside original printed collection card inserts.

Position the post box on an entryway console table, hallway sideboard, or home office desk. It serves as a functional focal point for incoming mail or stationery storage while providing historical interest.

Dust the wooden structure regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically along the grain. Avoid chemical cleaners on brass fitments to preserve their natural oxidised patina.
