Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Furniture produced in Ireland during the 19th century often featured robust construction from high-quality timbers such as oak and mahogany. Maker stamps, precise joinery, and detailed neoclassical or foliage carvings around backrests and legs frequently distinguish major Dublin workshops of the era.

Frame construction predominantly relied on solid hardwoods like oak, mahogany, or walnut, joined with traditional mortise and tenon technique. Seats were traditionally padded using natural fillings such as horsehair and upholstered in wool velvet, leather, or woven tapestry textiles.

Authentic pieces by established makers typically feature a clear impressed name stamp or brass makers plate on the seat frame or leg timber. Authentic age displays natural wear patterns, historic tool marks, and consistent oxidisation on unpolished under-surfaces.

Antique oak side chairs create balance when paired with minimalist timber dining tables or modern glass surfaces. Incorporating neutral upholstery bridges historic craftsmanship with contemporary interior colour schemes.

Maintain the timber by regularly dusting with a soft, dry cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep chairs away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent timber movement or upholstery fading.
