Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Globe Wernicke bookcase is an early modular storage system composed of separate interlocking wooden tiers, each fitted with a glazed door that lifts up and slides back into the cabinet. First patented in the late nineteenth century, this design allowed legal professionals and academics to easily expand or transport their libraries.

These sectional bookcases were primarily crafted from solid oak, mahogany, or walnut, featuring glass panels, internal metal door support mechanisms, and brass knobs. Later models incorporated side banding and metal interlocking clips to secure individual tiers.

Authentic pieces feature internal paper labels, metal maker marks, or stamped branding inside the back panel of each section. Additional indicators include the proprietary scissor-action door mechanism, side metal banding, and specific standardized shelf height codes.

Position the bookcase in a home office, hallway, or living room to add architectural structure and vertical storage. The glass doors protect items from dust, making it suitable for displaying modern pottery, framed prints, and curated object collections alongside books.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft microfiber cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the oak. Avoid harsh glass cleaners on original panes, applying spray to a cloth first to protect adjacent woodwork and door mechanisms.
