Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Chinoiserie emerged in 17th-century Europe as decorative artists interpreted East Asian motifs, landscapes, and lacquerwork. During the Edwardian era, interest in revival styles brought painted lacquer table lamps back into popularity, blending traditional European lamp shapes with Oriental hand-painted decoration.

Traditional pieces feature turned wood or metal bases coated with multiple layers of lacquer or paint. Hand-gilded figures, flora, and fauna are applied using metallic pigments, topped with brass electrical fittings and bayonet bulb holders.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-painted brushwork with slight variations rather than modern mass-printed designs. Look for natural age-related craquelure in the lacquer, original brass gallery fitments, and wear along the edges of the base where handling occurs.

Place the lamp on a modern neutral sideboard, console, or writing desk to create visual contrast. Pairing detailed lacquerwork with clean-lined contemporary furniture allows the historic artwork to serve as a focal point.

Dust the surface gently with a dry microfibre cloth, avoiding water, harsh detergents, or solvent-based polishes that can lift delicate gilding. Ensure the electrical wiring is regularly checked by a qualified electrician to maintain safe operation.
