Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Canine portraiture gained widespread popularity during the 19th century, particularly in the Victorian era, as pet ownership grew and pedigree breeding became formalised. Artists focused on capturing the distinct anatomical features and temperaments of specific breeds in oil on canvas.

Oil paintings from this period were typically executed using oil-based pigments applied to natural linen or cotton canvas stretched over timber frames. These works were frequently presented in carved wooden frames finished with gilt or gesso detail.

Authentic period oil paintings usually feature age-appropriate craquelure across the paint layer, natural canvas discolouration, and period stretcher construction. Inspecting the reverse for original wooden keys, tacks, and aged canvas helps confirm authenticity.

A large framed animal portrait can be hung above a console table or fireplace as a singular focal point against plain walls. Alternatively, it can be integrated into a gallery wall alongside contrasting monochrome photography to build visual texture.

Dust the surface lightly using a soft, dry camel-hair brush, avoiding water or chemical cleaners that can degrade the varnish layer. Position the artwork away from direct sunlight, extreme humidity, and direct heat sources to prevent cracking or warping.
