Description

A delightful miniature 8 day striking bracket clock by Mappin & Webb, crafted in the elegant George II style and dating to circa 1910.

The figured walnut case stands on four raised brass bracket feet supporting a moulded base. Both the front and rear of the case feature hinged doors, allowing easy access for winding, setting the time, and servicing the movement. The glazed front door is fitted with a moulded brass bezel that protects the beautifully engraved silvered brass dial.

The square dial features a raised circular chapter ring with black Roman numerals and is signed Mappin & Webb, adding to its desirability and authenticity. The moulded domed top is finished with an attractive hinged brass carrying handle, enhancing its classic bracket clock appearance.

The clock is fitted with a high-quality French circular brass 8-day movement, striking the hours on a gong and regulated by a platform escapement similar to that found in a carriage clock. This is a comparatively rare example, as most miniature clocks of the early 20th century were produced as timepieces only, with much simpler movements.

This charming clock offers an authentic period appearance and would make an excellent addition to any collection of fine antique clocks.

The movement has not been recently serviced but has been tested and is in full working order at the time of sale. The clock is sold without a mechanical guarantee beyond being in working order when purchased.
