Swiss Silver Half Hunter Fob Watch and Chain

1900 - 1920
Description

Swiss silver half hunter fob watch and chain.

The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 36mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is 935 silver, so slightly purer than sterling, and there are Continental marks inside all three covers. The case is in good condition, a couple of small indentations to the chapter ring, and some pin prick sized marks to the back.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover.

Inside, there is an acrylic lens which is in good condition.

The dial is in lovely condition too. Pin-set hands.

The watch comes with a single chain, 21.5cm long including the T-bar and the clasp. The chain is hallmarked for 1889 with a maker’s mark for the Birmingham silversmith Edwin Page.

The watch and chain come in a new presentation box.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A half hunter pocket watch features a protective outer case with a central glass panel, allowing the wearer to read the time via an outer chapter ring without opening the cover. This design emerged in the nineteenth century to protect the internal crystal while maintaining quick usability.

These timepieces are constructed primarily with silver or sterling silver cases housing mechanical movements made with brass and steel components. Dials frequently feature enamel plating with painted Roman numerals, protected by glass covers.

Authentic Swiss silver watches feature official hallmarks stamped inside the case back, such as purity marks or regional assayer stamps. Mechanical movements typically display Swiss manufacturing marks, jewel counts, and unique serial numbers engraved on the plate.

A silver fob watch can be worn attached to a waistcoat or jacket pocket via its chain and T-bar, or worn suspended as a statement jewellery pendant. It can also serve as a functional decorative desk accessory when displayed on a dedicated watch stand.

Store the timepiece in a dry environment to prevent oxidisation and internal moisture damage. Mechanical movements require periodic servicing by a specialist horologist every three to five years to ensure functional lubrication and performance.
