The painting depicts a charming rural genre scene of four children watching a kitten drink from a shallow bowl, set against a cottage garden backdrop.

Langlois was a Surrey-born artist who exhibited at the Royal Academy during the 1860s and 70s. He became known for his still lifes, landscapes and sentimental domestic subjects in oil and watercolour.

Presented in its original carved and giltwood Victorian frame with a titled brass name plaque.
