Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French oak dresser base, often referred to as an enfilade or buffet, is a low storage cabinet featuring drawers situated above cupboard doors. Originating in 18th-century provincial France, these pieces were designed for practical storage and food service within dining spaces.

Pieces from this era typically feature solid oak joinery with hand-cut dovetail joints, fielded or carved panel doors, and long brass barrel hinges. The timber was historically finished with wax, showcasing natural grain patterns and peg-tenon construction.

Authentic 18th-century examples display hand-hewn oak timber, hand-forged iron or cast brass hardware, and uneven drawer construction showing hand-saw marks. Original keyhole escutcheons, pegged joints, and natural age-related patination inside the drawers further confirm authenticity.

Position the cabinet against a neutral wall in a dining room, hallway, or living space to serve as a focal anchor. Pair the dark oak timber with contemporary artwork, minimalist ceramic lamps, or a large framed mirror to create visual balance between traditional and modern aesthetics.

Maintain the wood by applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing gently along the grain. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage or splitting, and dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth.
