Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A trombone link watch chain is a style of pocket watch chain characterised by elongated, oval-shaped wire links alternating with smaller round links. Named after the sliding mechanism of the instrument, this design became prominent during the late Victorian era as a durable and decorative accessory for securing pocket watches to waistcoats.

Historically, Albert chains were constructed from sterling silver, gold, or pinchbeck metal alloys. Links were individually soldered for strength, and components such as T-bars and dog clips were attached using circular jump rings.

Authentic British silver watch chains typically display standard hallmarks on multiple individual links, as well as on the T-bar and dog clips. These marks include a purity stamp such as the lion passant, a city assay mark, a date letter, and a makers mark.

Antique watch chains are frequently repurposed as neckwear or layered bracelets. The dog clips and T-bar allow the piece to be fastened as a choker or suspended with pendants as a focal neckpiece.

Sterling silver watch chains should be cleaned periodically using a soft, non-abrasive silver polishing cloth to remove tarnish and surface oxidisation. Avoid submerging internal mechanical components, such as spring-loaded dog clips, in liquid chemical cleaners.
