Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A mid-18th-century drop-leaf table is a dining or accent table designed during the Georgian period featuring hinged side leaves that hang vertically when lowered. This design allowed a large dining surface area to be reduced in size for space-saving efficiency when not in active use.

Tables from this period were constructed using solid walnut or thick walnut veneers over native hardwood cores. Construction details include hand-cut rule joints along the hinged drop leaves, hand-forged iron hinges, and hand-carved cabriole or turned legs.

Authentic pieces feature signs of hand-planing on underside surfaces, hand-forged iron hardware, and natural timber shrinkage across wide solid boards. The underside structure typically shows historical wear, square wooden pegs, and hand-cut joinery.

A drop-leaf table can function as a slender side console along a hallway or wall when folded down, expanding to full size for dining. The natural walnut timber tone contrasts well with modern neutral walls and contemporary seating.

Preservation involves dusting with a clean, dry microfibre cloth and applying a neutral beeswax polish occasionally along the grain. The table must be situated away from radiators and direct sunlight to prevent drying, joint loosening, or uneven fading.
