Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Fruit knives were created during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to prevent acidic fruit juices from corroding standard carbon steel blades. Silver or silver-plated blades were non-reactive to fruit acids and became standard for formal dessert courses.

These sets traditionally feature sterling silver or silver-plated blades and handles, often filled with resin or pitch to secure the blade tang. Presentation sets were typically housed in wood-framed cases lined with velvet or silk.

Authentic examples feature makers marks or British hallmarks on the collars, handles, or blades that indicate silver purity and production date. Engraved foliate, floral, or scroll motifs on the blades are characteristic design indicators of nineteenth-century manufacture.

A cased set can be displayed open on a dining room sideboard, dresser, or inside a glass cabinet to showcase the contrast between the velvet lining and polished metal. The individual knives can also be incorporated into formal dining table settings.

Clean the blades by hand using warm soapy water immediately after use, avoiding full immersion to protect handle joints. Polish silver components gently with a soft cloth and specialist silver cleaner, storing the pieces inside their original fitted case to minimize oxidisation.
