Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Sheraton Revival emerged during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, drawing direct inspiration from Thomas Sheratons late eighteenth-century Neoclassical designs. The style is characterised by straight lines, slender proportions, tapered legs, and detailed wood inlays such as boxwood stringing and foliate marquetry.

Cabinetmakers primarily used dense timbers such as rosewood, mahogany, and satinwood, decorated with contrasting timber inlays like boxwood or ebony. Construction typically featured hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, solid timber drawer linings, and cast brass handles or castors.

Authentic period pieces show signs of historic craftsmanship, including natural timber movement, dovetailing on drawer joints, and aged brass hardware. The marquetry is flush with the surrounding veneer, showing faint surface patination rather than modern uniform factory finishes.

Position the desk near natural light as a compact work surface or dressing table, balancing its dark wood tones against neutral wall palettes. Pair it with a modern minimalist chair or tailored upholstery to create a subtle contrast between classical woodwork and contemporary elements.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year to nourish the timber. Position the item away from direct sunlight, central heating radiators, and damp areas to prevent veneer lifting or wood split caused by climate fluctuations.
