Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A William IV police truncheon is a turned wooden baton produced during the reign of King William IV between 1830 and 1837, carried by parish constables and early police forces as both a defensive implement and an official badge of authority.

Early 19th-century truncheons were typically turned from dense British hardwoods such as ash, beech, oak, or boxwood, followed by hand-painting using oil pigments, gilding, and varnish to apply royal ciphers and parish markers.

Authentic period truncheons feature turned handles with lanyard apertures, period-correct hand-painted royal monograms or crown insignia, appropriate historical wear to the paintwork, and signs of age-related wood contraction.

An antique truncheon can be displayed horizontally on a bookshelf, mounted inside a custom glass shadow box on an office wall, or placed on a dedicated brass display stand atop a desk or side table.

Hand-painted antique wood should be kept in a stable temperature away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent paint flaking, cleaned gently with a dry soft brush, and protected with microcrystalline wax applied lightly to unpainted areas.
