Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Grapefruit spoons are specialised items of flatware featuring pointed bowls designed to segment and scoop citrus fruits easily. They gained widespread popularity during the late 19th and early 20th centuries as formal dining services expanded to include course-specific utensils.

Fine antique flatware is crafted from sterling silver, an alloy containing 92.5 percent pure silver and 7.5 percent copper for structural rigidity. British silversmiths shaped these pieces through hand-forging or precision casting before applying official assay office hallmarks.

Authentic Scottish silver features official assay hallmarks, such as the castle mark for Edinburgh or the tree, fish, bird, and ring mark for Glasgow. These marks are stamped alongside a purity mark, date letter, and makers initials to verify origin and production year.

Incorporate antique silver cutlery into contemporary dining settings by pairing polished silver pieces with neutral linen napkins, matte stoneware, or modern glassware. Displaying flatware sets on a sideboard or table setting creates a refined contrast against minimal decor.

Clean solid silver flatware with warm water, mild detergent, and a soft cloth, drying immediately to prevent water spots. Periodically polish with a specialized silver cream to remove tarnish, avoiding abrasive sponges that could strip patination or hallmarks.
