Antique Victorian Mahogany Pembroke Drop Leaf Dining Table

19th century
Description

An antique Victorian mahogany Pembroke drop leaf dining table of useful compact proportions with two hinged drop leaves allowing it to be adapted for different spaces and occasions. The rectangular top has rounded corners and a moulded edge above a plain frieze supported by four finely turned legs terminating in original brass castors.

When fully opened it provides a practical dining surface suitable for four people. With both leaves lowered it becomes a narrow side table or console making it ideal for a smaller dining room kitchen apartment or hallway.

The warm mahogany has a rich mellow colour and the simple elegant design allows this versatile antique table to work equally well in a traditional or contemporary interior.

In good original condition with attractive age-related marks and wear consistent with its age and use.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Pembroke table is a light, versatile form of drop-leaf table developed in the eighteenth century, featuring two hinged side flaps supported by wooden brackets or fly-rails when extended.

Victorian Pembroke tables were primarily crafted from solid mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, frequently accented with turned wooden legs and cast brass wheels.

Authentic period examples exhibit hand-turned leg profiles, original brass castors, hand-cut dovetailed drawer joints where applicable, and natural wear to the underside support mechanisms.

A Pembroke table functions effectively as a space-saving dining surface in compact rooms, or as a hall console table when both side flaps are fully lowered.

Dust surfaces regularly with a clean microfibre cloth, apply beeswax sparingly along the grain twice yearly, and keep the timber away from direct heat sources and moisture.
