This is a fine quality antique English George III solid mahogany drop leaf dining table, circa 1800, displaying a stunning quality mahogany top, which seats between 4 – 6 people, in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, but nothing significant, considering the age of the item. The Georgian dining table has been cleaned and wax-polished by hand in our workshop, therefore the colour and form of the table is in excellent condition. The tabletop boasts a rich mahogany colour and patination. The gate leg mechanism is in good working order and so are the hinged table leaf joints. The Georgian dining table has been made from top quality solid mahogany timber and therefore it is a heavy table - this is an indication of the quality of the timber at this time. This Georgian drop leaf dining table is well-constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian drop leaf table is an 18th to early 19th-century wooden table featuring hinged side flaps supported by swing-out brackets or legs, allowing the surface to expand for dining or fold compact for space-saving.

These tables were primarily crafted from dense mahogany, featuring traditional hand-cut dovetail joints, iron or brass rule-joint hinges, and solid oak or pine internal framing.

Authentic Georgian examples feature hand-planed underside surfaces, original rule joints along the hinged flaps, handmade brass hinges with irregular screw threads, and straight tapered or square legs without modern machine marks.

Position the table with both leaves folded against a wall as a side table, or open it fully in a dining area surrounded by contemporary seating to contrast historical timber work with clean modern lines.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish occasionally, keeping the timber away from direct heat sources, radiators, and extreme moisture fluctuations.
