Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pier glass is a tall, narrow mirror designed during the 18th and early 19th centuries to be placed on the pier space between windows. During the Regency period, these mirrors were engineered to reflect limited candlelight and natural daylight, enhancing the brightness and perceived scale of grand reception rooms.

Regency mirrors typically feature carved timber frames finished with oil or water gilding using genuine gold leaf over a gesso base. Mirror plates from this era were made from hand-blown glass coated with a mercury-tin amalgam, often featuring hand-engraved intaglio details or divided plate designs.

Authentic Regency mirrors exhibit classical motifs such as acanthus leaves, rosettes, and beaded moulding alongside water-gilded surfaces showing subtle red or grey bole beneath worn areas. The original glass plates often display slight distortions, minor grey oxidation spots, and hand-cut wheel-engraved patterns.

A Regency pier glass can be positioned in a hallway, entryway, or modern living room above a minimalist console table to create visual contrast. The warmth of the original gilding pairs well with both neutral paint palettes and deep, dramatic wall colours.

Dust giltwood frames lightly with a soft, dry camel-hair brush, avoiding water or chemical cleaners that can dissolve the water-soluble gesso beneath the gold leaf. Clean the mirror glass carefully with a slightly damp microfiber cloth, ensuring moisture does not touch the gilded edges.
