The Chelsea Bijouterie Ltd has dated this Art Deco Diamond Solitaire Ring to the 1920s.
At its centre is a bright and exceptionally lively old brilliant cut diamond, estimated to weigh approximately 0.70 carat. The diamond displays excellent brilliance and immense sparkle, with an estimated H colour and VS1 clarity.
It is held in a wonderfully effective scalloped platinum illusion setting. The polished platinum surrounding the stone reflects its light and increases its apparent size, giving the diamond the visual presence of a stone approaching one carat.
The raised setting is complemented by bold yet minimalist tapered platinum shoulders. These meet a warm 18ct yellow gold shank, creating the classic two-colour combination frequently seen in fine early 20th-century engagement rings. The white platinum enhances the brightness of the diamond, while the yellow gold gives the ring warmth and character.
Viewed from the side, the open setting allows light to enter beneath the diamond and reveals the attractive hand-finished construction of the mount. The diamond stands approximately 5.6mm above the shank, giving it a graceful presence on the finger without appearing overly elaborate.
