Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French centre tables, or tables de milieu, originated during the 17th and 18th centuries as freestanding decorative furniture designed to sit in the middle of a room, salon, or foyer rather than against a wall. By the 19th century, revivals of Neoclassical and Louis XVI styles prominent under Napoleon III incorporated intricate marquetry, parquet tops, and carved architectural details.

Traditional French centre tables were crafted predominantly from high-grade solid hardwoods such as walnut, oak, and beech, frequently adorned with thin decorative veneers including walnut burr, kingwood, or rosewood. Joints were formed using traditional hand-cut mortise and tenon techniques, finished with French polish or wax.

Authentic period examples demonstrate hand-carved decorative motifs, hand-sawed veneers, and original structural joinery visible underneath the apron. Inspecting the underside reveals hand-planed timber surfaces, age-appropriate wood shrinkage, and historical wear pattern marks on legs and stretchers.

A French centre table functions as an accent piece when placed in an entry foyer, large hallway, or sitting room. Modern styling approaches pair the table with contemporary lighting, textured ceramics, or architectural books to contrast historical craftsmanship against minimalist backgrounds.

Preserve walnut furniture by maintaining steady humidity levels away from direct sunlight and artificial heat sources. Clean surfaces regularly using a soft microfibre cloth and apply beeswax polish sparingly along the grain to protect the patina without causing finish build-up.
