Antique Pair of Carved Walnut Desk Armchairs

A superb quality pair of antique carved walnut desk armchairs dating from around 1920. Exceptionally well made and beautifully carved throughout, these elegant chairs display superb craftsmanship and are equally suited for use as desk chairs, library chairs, occasional chairs or statement seating.

The shaped backs are beautifully pierced and carved with flowing foliate decoration and distinctive open scrolls, centred by an elegant carved splat. The shaped open arms are supported by finely carved uprights, whilst the serpentine seats provide generous comfort and complement the flowing lines of the frames.

Raised on elegant carved cabriole legs terminating in carved scroll feet, the chairs are richly decorated with crisp shell, acanthus and foliate carving to the knees and legs. The quality of the carving is outstanding, while the beautifully figured walnut has developed a rich warm colour and mellow patina, highlighting the excellent cabinet making throughout.

The fixed upholstered seats are covered in an attractive neutral patterned fabric finished with decorative braid edging, complementing the walnut beautifully and making the chairs ready for immediate use.

A highly decorative and versatile pair of antique armchairs, ideal for a study, library, desk, bedroom, hallway or reception room, combining excellent craftsmanship with everyday practicality.

Condition

Excellent antique condition with age-related wear, marks and a beautiful mellow patina consistent with age and use. The frames are strong, solid and sturdy throughout and the upholstery is clean and ready for immediate use.
