Painted circa 1885, this handsome red-head lady wearing a dark blue velvet dress. It is quite remarkable how the artist has captured the sheen of the material. She is wearing a ruff around her neck which is gathered by a mother of pearl oval brooch, impressive star-shaped buttons down the front, one or two age related marks, presented within a swept gild wood frame with egg and dart border, ready to hang.
