Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 18th century, wooden coffers served as essential household storage for linens, clothes, and valuable personal belongings. Often carved with dates, initials, or regional motifs, these pieces were frequently commissioned as marriage chests to record family milestones.

Georgian coffers were traditional joiner-built pieces constructed using mortise and tenon joints held together with wooden pegs. They typically feature solid oak panelling, flat top lids attached by iron wire or strap hinges, and integrated stile legs.

Authentic period coffers display signs of hand-craftsmanship, such as hand-planed interiors, irregular wooden pegging, and original iron fittings. Look for natural shrinkage across wood grain and authentic surface oxidation around joinery and keyholes.

An antique coffer functions as versatile storage at the foot of a bed, as a hallway bench, or as a central coffee table in a living room. Its warm timber tones create visual contrast when paired with contemporary upholstery and minimalist decor.

Preserve historical oak by applying a thin coat of natural beeswax once or twice a year to protect the surface finish. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and maintain a stable indoor humidity level to prevent timber movement or cracking.
