Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cast iron decorative items gained widespread popularity during the nineteenth century due to advancements in industrial foundry techniques. Horse head busts were commonly produced as hitching posts, stable decorations, gatepost finials, or interior decorative ornaments reflecting traditional equestrian heritage.

These sculptures were manufactured by pouring molten grey iron into two-part sand moulds, resulting in heavy metal castings. Once cooled, hand-chasing and filing refined the surface details prior to applying a protective paint, lacquer, or patinated finish.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit seam lines from traditional sand moulding, natural surface oxidation or age-appropriate patina, and considerable physical weight. Modern reproductions often show smoother, less detailed mould lines, lightweight modern alloys, or synthetic uniform rust finishes.

Position the pair symmetrically on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard, or large bookcase to create visual structure and texture. Their dark metallic tone contrasts effectively against light walls, polished timber surfaces, or neutral upholstery.

Dust the surface regularly using a dry soft-bristled brush or microfibre cloth. To prevent active rust and maintain the deep tone, apply a thin coat of clear microcrystalline wax annually and buff gently with a clean cotton cloth.
