Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A longcase clock, commonly known as a grandfather clock, is a tall, floor-standing pendulum clock housed in a wooden cabinet. Originating in the late 17th century, these timepieces feature weight-driven pendulum movements designed to improve timekeeping precision.

Antique longcase clocks were predominantly crafted from high-quality hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, and walnut, often embellished with marquetry or crossbanded flame veneers. The clock dials were constructed from brass or painted iron, housed alongside brass movement components.

Authentic Georgian examples frequently feature hand-cut cabinet joinery, original weight-driven mechanical movements, and hand-painted or brass engraved dials showing period details such as spandrels, calendar apertures, or moon phases.

Place a longcase clock as a statement focal piece in an entrance hall, formal dining space, or library. Pair the dark timber with neutral wall tones, contemporary artwork, or understated lighting to balance traditional craftsmanship with modern design elements.

Position the clock away from direct sunlight, radiators, and draughty areas to avoid wood warping or veneer lifting. Periodically wax the timber casing with beeswax polish and ensure the mechanical movement is serviced by a professional horologist every five to seven years.
