Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

In Chinese culture, the monkey symbolises cleverness, agility, and protection against evil forces. Carved wooden monkey sculptures were crafted as decorative objects during the Qing Dynasty and early 20th century, frequently associated with longevity and good fortune.

Artisans traditionally hand-carved these figures from dense hardwoods such as boxwood, rosewood, or camphor using chisels and gouges. The surface was typically treated with wax or natural oil, with some examples incorporating dark inset eyes made of horn, glass, or ebony.

Authentic early 20th-century carvings display hand-tool marks, subtle variations in surface depth, and organic wear on high-touch areas. Machine-milled modern reproductions feature uniform tool marks, synthetic lacquers, and lack natural timber oxidisation within carved crevices.

Position the carving on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or desk as a tactile focal point. Contrast the warm tones of carved wood against modern minimalist surfaces, light marble, or botanical displays.

Keep the sculpture away from direct sunlight, draughts, and heating radiators to prevent drying or split seams. Dust regularly with a soft brush, and apply a thin coat of natural beeswax polish annually to protect the surface finish.
