Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A smokers bow chair is a specific style of low-backed English tub armchair that originated in the 19th century. It features a heavy, steam-bent horseshoe rail that forms both the armrests and the back rest, supported by turned vertical spindles and a carved wooden saddle seat.

These chairs were predominantly constructed from regional British hardwoods, including oak, elm, ash, and beech. Elm was frequently selected for the solid saddle seat due to its resistance to splitting, while oak or ash were used for the turned legs and steam-bent rails.

Authentic Edwardian examples feature traditional joinery, such as wedge-tenon joints where the legs pass through the seat, turned spindles with distinct lathe profiles, and natural wear patterns on the seat and foot stretchers consistent with decades of use.

A smokers bow chair functions effectively as an accent desk chair in a home study or placed alongside a contemporary side table in a reading corner. The warm timber tones contrast well with neutral walls and contemporary textiles.

Preserve the wood finish by applying a high-quality beeswax paste once or twice a year, buffing gently along the grain with a soft cloth. Keep the chair away from direct heat sources and radiators to prevent timber shrinkage or joint loosening.
