Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the 18th century, George III breakfront bookcases are defined by a central section that projects forward beyond two side wings. They typically incorporate glazed upper doors for displaying books or china, lower timber cupboards or drawers, and architectural cornices such as swan-neck or pediment tops.

Primary construction utilised high-grade timbers such as West Indian mahogany and flame mahogany veneers, prized for their rich colour and grain patterns. Secondary timbers like oak or pine were used for drawer linings and carcase interiors, complemented by hand-blown float glass and cast brass hardware.

Authentic 18th-century pieces feature hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine drawer linings, original brass locks, and subtle irregularities in the hand-cut glass panes. The timber often displays depth of patina from centuries of waxing and natural light exposure.

Position the piece as an architectural focal point along a primary wall in a library, dining room, or wide hallway. Mix contemporary ceramics and modern art alongside books within the shelves to create a balanced contrast between traditional craft and contemporary design.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood. Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, warping, or veneer lift.
