Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Victorian Green Man furniture incorporates carved foliate faces depicting the mythical figure associated with nature and rebirth. Popularised during the nineteenth-century Gothic and Renaissance Revivals, these pieces feature deeply sculpted oak woodwork with intricate historical motifs.

Chairs from this era were predominantly constructed from solid European oak, favoured for its strength and dense grain. Seats were frequently woven from natural rush, while joinery relied on traditional mortise and tenon construction secured with timber pegs.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces display subtle variations in carved details left by hand chisels, alongside genuine dark patination in recessed areas. Inspection of the undersides and joints will reveal hand-saw marks and period joinery rather than uniform modern machine cuts.

A single carved side chair functions effectively as a focal accent in a hallway, alongside a contemporary console table, or paired with a minimalist writing desk. Combining dark carved oak with modern neutral walls or clean-lined furniture creates a balanced contrast.

Maintain the timber by applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing along the wood grain to preserve the finish. Keep rush seats clean by light vacuuming with a soft brush attachment and avoid exposing the item to direct heat sources or damp conditions.
