Antique Silver Cyma Pocket Watch & Chain, Locomotive Interest

1900 - 1920
Description

Antique silver Cyma pocket watch, locomotive interest.

The watch has a Swiss stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement has been identified as by Cyma. It is all protected by an inner cover.

The watch measures 47mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the two case backs for London (import mark), 1918, with a sponsor’s mark for George Stockwell. From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail. The case is in good condition, just some unevenness to the back. The back of the watch has the elaborately engraved initials.

The glass lens has light marking but is very acceptable.

The dial has an image of a steam locomotive which is in the enamel, not an applied detail. It is in very nice condition with blued steel hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute track.

The watch comes with a single silver chain, 35cm long including the T-bar and the clasp. There is also a fob from the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, a major 19th-century UK trade union founded in 1871. The chain weighs 28g plus the fob.

The watch and chain come in a new presentation box.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Railway pocket watches were reliable mechanical timepieces designed or adopted for use on railway networks to ensure precise timekeeping for train schedules and safety operations.

These watches typically feature cases crafted from sterling silver, nickel, or gold plate, housing mechanical movements with enamel dials and protective glass crystals.

Authenticity can be verified by inspecting the hallmarks inside the case back, examining maker marks on the movement, and checking for period-correct dial printing.

A pocket watch can be displayed on a specialized watch stand under a glass dome, positioned inside a glazed shadow box, or placed on a valet tray.

Store the timepiece in a dry environment, wipe the silver case gently with a soft polishing cloth to remove tarnish, and have the mechanical movement serviced periodically by a horologist.
