Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Dutch floral marquetry dressing table mirror, historically known as a toilet glass, is a tabletop mirror featuring intricate floral imagery rendered in contrasting wood veneers. Emerging prominently in the Netherlands during the late seventeenth through early nineteenth centuries, these mirrors feature swiveling frames set above small drawers intended to hold cosmetics and personal accessories.

These mirrors were constructed using a solid timber carcase, frequently oak or pine, covered in fine walnut or mahogany veneers. Decorative floral motifs were executed using contrasting woods such as boxwood, holly, sycamore, and fruitwoods, held together with natural animal glues and fitted with silvered plate glass.

Authentic period marquetry displays subtle irregularities from hand-cutting rather than machine precision, along with natural shrinkage lines in the timber veneer. Period pieces feature hand-dovetailed drawer joints, evidence of pit-saw marks on secondary timber backs, and original mercury-silvered glass showing minor foxing and desilverisation.

Position the piece atop a modern minimalist chest of drawers, hallway console, or vanity table to create contrast between period craftsmanship and contemporary design lines. Placing the mirror in an area with warm natural lighting accentuates the detail of the timber grain and floral inlay.

Keep the wood away from direct heat sources and sudden humidity changes to prevent veneer lift or warping. Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth and apply a thin layer of natural beeswax polish annually, avoiding chemical sprays or abrasive cleaners on the inlaid surfaces.
