Antique Regency Mahogany Octagonal Occasional Table C.1820

19th century
Description

A Regency mahogany occasional table, the finely figured single-plank solid octagonal top with shallow edge moulding set over three ring-turned pillars, above a triform platform centred by a turned roundel, all raised on three outswept legs.

Positioned beside a fireside armchair, the table serves beautifully as an elegant wine table, providing a sophisticated classical silhouette that can be easily repositioned as required.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Crafted between approximately 1811 and 1830, Regency occasional tables are characterised by classical proportions, refined timber selection such as dark mahogany, turned upright pillars, and elegant tripod or splayed bases.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency era predominantly utilized solid mahogany and decorative veneers, often pairing them with brass fittings, turned timber spindles, and hand-cut joinery.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display signs of hand-craftsmanship, including minor irregularities in turned elements, hand-planed undersides, aged oxidation in the wood grain, and original construction joints.

Position the table beside a sofa or accent chair as a surface for lighting or books, allowing the historic timber and geometric silhouette to contrast against modern soft furnishings.

Maintain the surface by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying natural beeswax polish annually, while keeping the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber cracking.
