For Sale by Ritas Bazaar
Description

A rare Wedgwood Fairyland Lustre bowl designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones and produced in England circa 1915. Pattern Z4828 combines a Turkish-Blue Lustre exterior with a Yellow Lustre interior decorated with dragons and Oriental motifs.

The exterior displays a rare pearl-grey Turkish-Blue lustre ground with attractive iridescent colour variation and scattered gilt Oriental motifs. The interior is richly finished in Yellow Lustre and centred by a finely painted dragon of exceptional quality.

Daisy Makeig-Jones created some of Wedgwood's most imaginative and technically accomplished decorative wares. Dragon patterns such as Z4828 were produced in relatively small numbers and remain highly desirable to collectors today.

The unusual combination of colours, iridescence and Oriental-inspired decoration gives the bowl exceptional display value and makes it a particularly appealing example from the Fairyland Lustre series.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Wedgwood lustreware, particularly the Fairyland and Dragon lines designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones in the early 20th century, features iridescent metallic glazes applied over porcelain or bone china with detailed gilding.

Lustreware was produced by applying metallic oxide glazes onto a fired ceramic body, followed by a specialised low-oxygen firing process that yielded a thin iridescent film, often complemented by hand-applied gold leaf details.

Authentic pieces feature the impressed or printed Wedgwood maker mark on the base, alongside hand-painted pattern codes starting with the letter Z and high-gloss iridescent metallic glazes with sharp gilt line work.

Display the bowl on a sideboard top, console, or open shelving unit where ambient light reflects off the iridescent surface and gilded detailing.

Dust gently using a dry microfibre cloth; avoid harsh chemical cleansers, abrasive pads, or prolonged soaking in water to prevent damage to the delicate metallic glaze and gilding.
