Georgian London Bracket Clock by Henry Jenkins

A fine quality George III period double fusee figured mahogany bracket clock with brass and silvered dial, bell striking and alarm by Henry Jenkins, London c.1775. The figured mahogany case with bell top and brass carrying handle set above. Fretwork decoration above the glazed door with matching moulding around the edge of the glass and door. Original double sound fretts to each side of the case and a moulded plinth to the base with small stepped pad feet below. Glazed hinged door to the rear. Brass and silvered dial with engraved chapter ring, subsidiary strike/silent dial to the arched and date aperture to the lower half of the dial. Engraved silvered disk to the centre of the hands for setting the alarm. Matted dial centre with cartouche bearing the makers name plus cast gilded brass spandrels to the corners. Internally the movement has an engraved backplate, anchor escapement and twin fusee drives. Twin bells, one for hour striking and the other for the alarm, plus repeat mechanisms for both the striking and alarm. Henry Jenkins is recorded as making fine quality bracket, astronomical and geographical clocks between 1768 and 1778. A particularly fine example is housed at the British Museum. This example is presented in superb original condition with a rich colour and patina to the case, and the movement is fully overhauled and working. Smaller items are shipped by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes insurance for the item whilst in transit and a guaranteed tracked delivery.
