A 17th Century Portrait of a Gentleman.

17th century
For Sale by Youngs Antiques
Description

A 17th century Dutch portrait of a gentleman set with in a ripple moulded and ebonised frame. At some point this painting appears to have been slashed across the face and it has then been carefully hand stitched back together and then relined most likely in the early 1900's. The portrait is brilliantly painted and the artist has perfectly captured the surface texture of the leather hide clothing and linen collar by the use of light, which has also given power to highlight the contours of the sitters face.

The portrait is in very good condition and is ready to hang.
