Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A cushion mirror features a raised central glass panel surrounded by angled or sloped outer mirrored sections, creating a three-dimensional frame profile that was popular during the 17th to 19th centuries across Western Europe.

These frames were typically crafted from softwood structures coated with gesso and plaster detailing, finished with hand-applied gold leaf gilding, and fitted with bevelled mercury or silvered glass plates.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of natural wear to the gold leaf, revealing red or grey bole and white gesso underneath, along with dark spots or oxidisation on the original bevelled glass plates.

Position the mirror centrally above a fireplace mantelpiece or hallway console table to reflect natural light and create a formal architectural focal point within contemporary or traditional rooms.

Dust the gilded frame gently using a soft, dry bristle brush to prevent lifting the fragile gold leaf, and clean the mirror glass with a slightly dampened microfibre cloth, keeping moisture away from the frame edge.
