Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Victorian era, desktop post boxes were used in private residences to hold outgoing and incoming mail. Household members placed letters into specific slots labelled for collection by staff or the postal service.

These boxes were predominantly constructed from cabinet woods such as satinwood, mahogany, walnut, or oak. Decorative elements often included ivory, bone, brass, or silver-plated slotted mounts and metal lock escutcheons.

Authentic 19th-century pieces typically feature hand-cut dovetail joinery, original brass or steel lock mechanisms, and period-correct typography on the metal or ivory letter plaques. Genuine age manifests as subtle surface wear, oxidation around metal fittings, and natural wood grain shrinkage.

A Victorian letter box can be placed on an office desk, console table, or library shelf as a functional container for stationery or documents. Its warm wood tones pair well with contemporary leather desk mats and brass lighting.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent veneer lifting and colour fading. Apply a high-grade beeswax polish periodically along the direction of the grain, avoiding abrasive cleansers on metal plaques.
