Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A lowboy is a small table fitted with one or more drawers, originating in the late 17th and 18th centuries in Great Britain and North America. Designed primarily as a dressing table or side table, it features turned or cabriole legs and was frequently crafted to match a tallboy or chest-on-chest.

18th-century lowboys were predominantly constructed from solid European oak, utilising hand-dovetailed drawer joints, mortise and tenon joinery, and wooden peg fixings. Hardware typically consisted of cast brass batwing or swan-neck handles accompanied by hand-forged iron drawer locks.

Authentic 18th-century lowboys display hand-sawn wood marks, irregular dovetail joints, wooden peg construction, and natural wear around the stretcher base and feet. The brass hardware often exhibits age-related oxidisation and hand-chased details on the reverse side.

An antique oak lowboy serves as a functional console table in a hallway, an occasional desk in a study, or a side table in a living room. Pairing dark timber with neutral wall tones, contemporary lighting, or modern artwork creates a balanced contrast between historic joinery and modern design.

Preserve the original finish by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Position the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and extreme fluctuations in humidity to prevent timber shrinkage or splitting.
