Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Georgian period, leather fire buckets were essential firefighting items stored in public buildings and private residences to carry water from pumps or wells to put out fires prior to municipal fire services.

These containers were crafted using thick hide leather, copper or iron rivets for structural seams, and rolled metal rims. The interiors were often painted with pitch, oil, or lead paint to make the vessel watertight.

Authentic pieces feature hand-stitched construction, thick aged leather hide showing natural surface cracking, heavy copper or iron studding along vertical joins, and evidence of historical paint or sealing layers inside.

These historical vessels function effectively as decorative waste paper baskets in home offices, umbrella stands in hallways, or characterful containers beside a fireplace hearth for kindling.

Keep leather items away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent drying or moulding. Dust the exterior gently with a dry microfibre cloth and apply specialized conservation leather wax sparingly to preserve the hide.
