Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency stick barometer is a slender, wall-mounted 19th-century scientific instrument designed to measure atmospheric pressure using a mercury-filled glass tube. Popularised during the early 1800s in Britain, these pieces featured refined wooden casing, often crafted from mahogany, alongside engraved silvered brass plates.

These instruments were predominantly constructed using mahogany, oak, or rosewood timber cases fitted with hand-engraved silvered brass scale plates. They incorporate capillary glass tubes containing mercury, alongside brass verniers and adjusters.

Authentic Regency barometers exhibit neoclassical design details such as pediment tops, carved urn finials, and slim mahogany casework. Look for maker signatures engraved directly onto silvered brass plates, original mercury glass tubes, and period-appropriate scale typography.

Mount the instrument vertically on a narrow wall, within a hallway corridor, or beside library shelving to showcase its linear profile. The dark timber finish and engraved silver plate create a striking historical accent when set against contemporary neutral backdrop tones.

Mount the barometer vertically in a stable environment away from direct sunlight, moisture, and central heating radiators to avoid timber warping. Dust the casing with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, and avoid touching or polishing the silvered brass dial to preserve the original lacquer.
