Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Green Man carved oak dresser base is a low storage cabinet characterized by relief carvings of the Green Mana foliate head or mask originating in medieval folklore. These pieces were predominantly crafted during the 19th century as part of the Jacobean and Gothic Revival movements, serving as storage and serving surfaces in dining rooms and halls.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid European oak, utilizing hand-joined mortise and tenon joints, hand-carved decorative motifs, and hand-cut dovetail drawers. The dark finish was often achieved through traditional staining techniques or natural darkening of the wood oak over time.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display hand-carved detailing with subtle variations, hand-cut joinery, original iron or brass hardware, and natural signs of wear such as shrinkage gaps along timber joints. The foliage sprouting from the mouth or surrounding the carved face is a key motif of the style.

A dark oak dresser base provides a strong textural anchor in contemporary spaces when contrasted against light, neutral walls. It can be topped with modern ceramics, minimalist lamps, or contemporary artwork to balance the heavy historical carving.

Dark oak furniture should be dusted regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and polished occasionally with a high-quality beeswax to preserve the patina and nourish the wood. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber warping and drying.
