Arctic raced on the Blandford Downs (near where Blandford Camp sits today) between 1837 and 1844, capturing the prestigious Gold Cup in 1838 and four successive years from 1841 to 1844. During his illustrious career, he passed through the hands of several notable owners, most prominently The Hon. Sidney Herbert (a prominent 19th-century MP and statesman).
