Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Edwardian silver and tortoiseshell trinket box is a small decorative container produced primarily in the early 20th century, combining sterling silver mounts with a dark tortoiseshell lid, often featuring delicate silver or gold inlay known as pique work.

These pieces typically feature a solid sterling silver base and rim with standard British hallmarks, paired with natural polished tortoiseshell. Decorative patterns on the lid are applied using pique technique, where precious metal wire or sheet shapes are inlaid directly into the softened shell.

Authentic pieces bear official British hallmark stamps indicating the maker, silversmith location, purity mark, and date letter. The tortoiseshell surface should display natural mottling, while the silver inlay will show minute, hand-fitted craftsmanship rather than printed patterns.

Style a silver trinket box by placing it atop a stack of design books on a bedside table, positioning it inside a glass-fronted display cabinet, or placing it on a dressing table alongside modern glass perfume bottles for tactile contrast.

Clean silver areas gently using a soft cotton cloth and specialized silver polish, taking care to keep liquids away from the tortoiseshell. Keep the item out of direct sunlight and extreme thermal changes to prevent the natural shell from drying out or cracking.
