Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian inkstands, produced between 1901 and 1910, often feature refined classical shapes, Neoclassical beadwork or gadrooning, and compact rectangular or oval silhouettes. They were manufactured to house glass ink containers and writing tools for formal correspondence desks.

Antique inkstands were constructed using base metals electroplated with silver (EPNS), sterling silver, cast brass, or mahogany, often fitted with heavy cut glass or crystal ink bottles. The combination of metal casing and cut glass provided both durability and functional weight on a desk surface.

Authentic silver-plated pieces from this period generally bear makers stamps or EPNS electroplate markings on the base or interior rim. Construction methods include soldered joints, hand-cut glass liners, and subtle age-related wear or light tarnish where silver plate meets the base metal.

An antique inkstand serves as a functional or decorative object on an office desk, console table, or library shelf. It can be paired with bound books, brass instruments, or traditional stationery items to add structure and historical texture.

Clean silver plate gently using a soft, non-abrasive cotton cloth and a mild silver polish specifically formulated for plated metals to prevent wearing down the thin layer of silver. Avoid dipping solutions and harsh chemicals, and dust glass components separately using warm soapy water.
