Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in France in the early nineteenth century, carriage clocks were developed by horologists as portable timepieces for travellers. They typically feature a spring-driven mechanical movement housed in a rectangular brass case with glass side panels and a hinged top handle.

Carriage clocks traditionally feature solid brass or gilded bronze cases, clear bevelled glass viewing panels, and white enamel dials over copper plates. Internal components consist of brass plates, steel arbors, and precision-cut gear trains.

Authentic French carriage clocks often feature maker stamps, serial numbers, or trademark logos stamped directly onto the movement backplate. Period examples feature heavy brass construction, hand-finished gearing, and an upper glass aperture revealing the platform escapement.

A brass carriage clock can be styled atop a fireplace mantelpiece, integrated into a curated bookshelf display, or positioned on an executive desk. Its metallic finish and classic white dial complement both traditional and modern neutral interiors.

To preserve a carriage clock, place it in a dry climate away from direct heat and damp drafty spots. Clean the external metal casing using a soft microfibre cloth rather than harsh polish, and have the mechanical movement serviced by a professional horologist every three to five years.
