Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III longcase clock dates from the reign of King George III (17601820). These clocks are characterized by mahogany cases, architectural pediments such as swan-neck or pagoda hoods, and movements designed to run for either thirty hours or eight days between windings.

Eight-day longcase clocks were typically constructed with solid oak carcasses veneered in flame mahogany, walnut, or fruitwood. The movements consist of brass plates and steel arbours, while dials were executed in hand-painted sheet iron or engraved brass with cast brass spandrels.

Authentic Georgian longcase clocks display hand-cut brass gears, iron weight lines, hand-painted or engraved brass dials, and period-correct joinery such as hand-dovetailed trunk construction and original wrought-iron or brass hinges.

A longcase clock can be positioned in an entrance hall, stairwell, or dining room to create a vertical focal point. The rich mahogany tone pairs effectively with neutral wall paint and contemporary minimalist furnishings to bridge traditional and modern aesthetics.

The mahogany case should be kept away from direct sunlight and heat sources, maintained with periodic applications of beeswax, while the mechanical movement requires professional lubrication and cleaning by a qualified horologist every five to seven years.
